Family Sponsorship
Canada family immigration visa is specially designed for Canadian citizens or permanent residents who want to sponsor their families including their parents/grandparents and their dependent children (up to the age of 22 years of age) to Canada as Permanent Residents.
What is Family sponsorship?
This program doesn’t have any point system like other immigration programs. This sponsorship takes around 12 months to process the application. The potential sponsor should be able or willing to provide for the financial needs of a parent/grandparent or their dependent child.
Requirements of Parent/Grandparent Sponsorship
Unlike the Spousal sponsorship category, this category requires that the sponsor must meet the minimum income threshold for this program which is published each year.
Moreover, the period of undertaking is longer in this category as compared to the spousal sponsorship category. The sponsor must sign and undertaking for a period of 20 years. The time period begins the day the parent or grandparent becomes a permanent resident.
Requirements of Dependent Child Sponsorship
This category is also exempt from minimum Low-income requirement (LICO). However, the dependent child should be less than 22 years of age and should be unmarried.
In some cases, children above 22 can be sponsored as dependent children only if they are substantially dependent on their parents for financial support due to a physical or mental condition.
Like Family Sponsorship in Canada, the onus is on the applicant to prove the genuine parent-child relationship between the applicant and the sponsor.
