Take a 10-second break after reading this text to ponder the three most significant characteristics of the game of golf. 4… 3… 2… 1…
I’ll now go over them in descending order of significance.
The ball has now entered play.
Controlling the speed of the golf ball during putting (distance).
Golfing with a lofted ball
Today, we’ll focus on what I consider to be the MOST IMPORTANT part of golf: DRIVING THE GOLF BALL IN PLAY. This aspect of the game is our sport’s number one confidence booster. As you are probably aware and have experienced, hitting your tee shots out of play boosts your score immediately.
Put your seatbelt on: If you read this special report before every round of golf this summer, your buddies will believe they’re playing with Fred Funk by September. For the previous four years, Fred Funk had topped the P.G.A. Tour in driving accuracy. Every time he plays 18 rounds of golf, he hits 76% of the fairways. Start with the four fundamentals listed below if you want to modify the way you drive the golf ball.
THE PICTURE: Before each tee shot, visualise how you want the golf ball to fly.
THE IDEAL DRIVER: Select the best driver for your swing.
TEE HEIGHT IS APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR GOLF SWING.
SWING ON THE APPROPRIATE SWING PLANE: Swing the driver on the ideal swing plane for you.
THE IMAGE: You can have it if you can see it. Before pulling out your driver or any other club from your golf bag, visualise how you want the golf ball to appear as it travels down the fairway. There are millions upon millions of words. My mother (the first woman to teach at a golf school in the United States) taught me a proverb that has stuck with me throughout the years. You must imagine where and how the ball will land. You must choose where you want the ball to land while using a driver. IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE PICTURE, YOU WILL BE IN DANGER.
Important Tip: When playing golf, you may find yourself driving the ball well just to encounter a difficult driving hole. I played a practise round with Tommy Bolt, the 1958 U.S. Open Champion, shortly after turning professional. We arrived to a stunning 435-yard par four with water running down the right side of the fairway from tee to green and out of bounds markers along the length of the left side. “How are you going to deal with the O.B. on the left and the water on the right?” I asked Tommy after teeing off my golf ball. “Son,” Tommy remarked as he stared me down, “if you see the water and the O.B. insignia, you should look for another job.”
That has stayed with me to this day, and I wanted to share it with you. Rather than focusing on the issues, consider what you want the ball to do. My job has been tremendously useful to me, and I hope it will be good to you as well.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Let’s check whether you brought the right brush to paint with now that you can view the picture. If you keep attempting to gain 20 yards every time you enter a golf store. It’s time to say good-by—RIGHT NOW! To swing the golf ball straight down the fairway, all you need is a metal driver with a graphite shaft and a new grip.
Let us take a little rest. Your golf club’s loft will have a big influence on your accuracy. If you’re having trouble with your driver, consider upgrading to one with at least 10-12 degrees of loft. The lower a driver’s loft, the more probable the ball will slice and hook. If you’re a good driver, you can get a driver with less loft.
Aside: If you’re driving the golf ball short, low, and to the right, it’s possible that your shaft is too stiff. The shaft may be too weak if you are driving the golf ball too high and to the left.
If you have tiny hands, have a club repair business replace all of your grips with junior or small grips. Because you have huge hands, you should re-grip your clubs with larger grips.
Finally, before increasing distance, prioritise getting the ball on the fairway. You almost certainly already have everything you need to hit the perfect fairway shot. Remember that it is the swing, not the equipment, that is crucial. The equipment will help you once you’ve perfected your swing, but it will never FIX your swing.
TEE HEIGHT IS SUITABLE: Tee height may look small, but it has a big impact on your ability to drive the golf ball down the fairway consistently. Something as straightforward as this is frequently the most difficult.
The two most common errors are teeing off too low or too high. Golf, as you’ve surely heard, is a game of opposites. This is an excellent example. Please let me explain why. If you routinely hammer your driver into the ground on the downswing, you’re teeing the ball too low. Most vertical driver swing golfers tee the ball low in the hopes of catching it square because they are afraid of swinging beneath the golf ball.
If this is a problem for you, tee the ball higher, sit back a little further on your heels, and hold your weight in that position on the downswing the next time you play. Check to see if your tee is still in place after your shot. If you are always concerned about leaving the tee in the ground, you will be unable to hit tee shots.
When you hit tee shots to the right, the ball may be teed too high since you’re on the upswing. Tee the ball a little lower the next time you head out to play. After the golf ball has landed, make sure your weight is on your left foot, indicating that you have moved your weight appropriately.
TYPE OF SWING PLANE: One additional piece of advise. I’m convinced that in no time you’ll be driving the golf ball more consistently and straightly. The sand wedge is your most vertically swinging golf club (up and down). Your driver is the golf club that swings the most horizontally (around you, like a baseball swing). The majority of novice golfers make the mistake of swinging a sand wedge like a driver and a driver like a sand wedge.
When addressing the driver, keep the following in mind:
Keep your head held high.
In the back swing level, turn your right shoulder.
Swing the golf club around you rather than up and down.
Once you’ve struck the ball, place the tee on the ground.
Keep your swing ideas to a minimal when you’re ready to begin your backswing. Consider swinging more horizontally.
I promised at the beginning of this one-of-a-kind report that if you read this information every time. Before visiting the links this summer, you’d get a complimentary tee time. You’ll be able to drive the ball with greater confidence, accuracy, and consistency. This may appear to be a simple task, but try it and send me an email with your results. You’ll get some great outcomes.
