Residents of Johnson County can now enjoy a much-anticipated healthy eatery, as Whole Harvest Kitchen has officially opened its doors in Leawood. This plant-based restaurant began as a meal delivery service in 2018 and has now expanded to its first brick-and-mortar location at 4853 W. 117th St., situated on the east end of the Town Center Plaza shopping center, neighboring vitamin and supplement store GNC.
Operating Hours and Menu Offerings
Whole Harvest Kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The menu features “whole food” items such as hummus bowls, Mediterranean salads, jackfruit pizzas, and vegetable dumplings. Sweet treats, including chocolate fudge cake, dark chocolate truffles, and banana-based “nice cream,” are also available. The restaurant plans to introduce grab-and-go options like wraps and salads soon.
All menu items are plant-based and oil-free, emulating the typical Blue Zone diet. Many ingredients are locally sourced from Kansas and Missouri, reflecting the restaurant’s commitment to supporting local producers.
Executive Chef Will Harris’ Personal Journey
Executive Chef Will Harris has a personal connection to the plant-based focus of Whole Harvest Kitchen. After adopting a primarily plant-based diet, he experienced significant health improvements. Harris’ favorite menu items at the restaurant include the sourdough pizzas and mushroom dishes, such as the K.C. Barbecue Plate with jackfruit and barbecue mushrooms.
Expansion Plans for Whole Harvest Kitchen
Whole Harvest Kitchen aims to open more locations in Johnson County and across the country. The restaurant’s goal is not to be explicitly vegan, but to serve great food that just happens to be vegan. Harris believes that incorporating plant-based meals into one’s diet once or twice a week can serve as a gateway to healthier eating habits.
