Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting PetroSains, The Discovery Centre, located in the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. As someone who is always curious about science and technology, I was excited to explore what PetroSains had to offer. Nestled within Suria KLCC, this interactive science museum promised an educational adventure, and it certainly did not disappoint.
Arriving at PetroSains
My journey began as soon as I entered the fourth floor of Suria KLCC. The entrance to Petrosains KLCC is somewhat hidden away from the usual shopping pathways, making it feel like entering a secret world. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the sight of a life-sized replica oil platform, setting the tone for what was an immersive and educational experience. I booked a ticket from Traveloka.
Interactive Exhibits
One of the first exhibits I encountered was the Dark Ride. It’s a ride that takes you through the formation of petroleum from the microscopic beginnings to the extraction processes, all presented through a captivating audio-visual experience. I was impressed by how effectively complex information was transformed into an engaging story that could be easily understood by visitors of all ages.
As I moved further into PetroSains, I found myself interacting with a variety of hands-on exhibits. From operating a thermal camera to experiencing a simulated helicopter ride to an oil rig, every activity was designed to educate while entertaining. The blend of physical interaction and learning fascinated me, as it’s not often you get to be so hands-on in a museum.
Science Shows and Demonstrations
One of the highlights of my visit was the science show conducted by enthusiastic staff members. The show focused on the principles of pressure and gases, and it was not only informative but also quite humorous and engaging. The presenter did an excellent job of explaining the science behind everyday phenomena, using simple experiments that captivated the audience, including myself.
Exploring Energy Play
PetroSains is not just about petroleum science. The Energy Play area was a testament to this, offering a broader look at various energy forms and the future of energy technology. This section had interactive games and activities that explained renewable energy sources like solar and wind. I particularly enjoyed the challenge of trying to power an entire city with just renewable energy in one of the interactive games.
The Giant Screen Theatre
My visit concluded at the Giant Screen Theatre where I watched a documentary about space exploration. The theatre’s state-of-the-art facilities and the stunning visual and sound effects made it feel like I was journeying through space myself. It was a perfect end to my educational outing, leaving me inspired and awed by the wonders of science and technology.
Final Thoughts
PetroSains, The Discovery Centre, is a hidden gem in KLCC that offers much more than a typical museum visit. It’s an educational sanctuary where science is brought to life through interactive play, engaging demonstrations, and thought-provoking exhibits. Whether you’re a science enthusiast or just looking for a fun way to spend the day, PetroSains offers an enriching experience for visitors of all ages. As I left the centre, I felt a renewed appreciation for the role of science in our everyday lives and the complexities of the energy industry that powers our world. I recommend PetroSains to anyone visiting Kuala Lumpur, especially families and school groups, as it’s a place where learning and fun go hand in hand.
